STUDENT LIFE

Carmel students shout with pride, “C-A-C! THE PLACE TO BE!”

LEARN WITH

Caring Teachers

What’s the best thing about Carmel? Students and parents agree—it’s our genuinely caring teachers.

I love Carmel because the teachers are so friendly. Everyone gets along so nicely and treats everyone the same... Note taking and researching all used to be boring to me, but it’s like they’ve made it come alive!

—Violet, Year 6 Student

Both our children have flourished since attending Carmel... [our son] has always been confident and resilient, however has struggled academically—until this year. He has been given so much individually tailored support that has seen him flourish and—in turn—develop academic confidence. His big emotions have been understood and supported instead of reprimanded. He is clearly in a space where he is allowed to be himself, he is understood, and cared for.

—Laura, Primary Campus Parent

Our learning environment is one of love, where we treat children with respect

We have worked hard to assemble a team of dedicated teachers with a wide range of skills and interests. We believe that over a child’s journey at school, this variety and breadth of experience will enrich learning for each student. We recognise the importance of having teachers on our team who have a genuine heart for children and who are passionate about learning and teaching.

Come and meet the people who want to give your child the best possible start in life.

MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE

Good Friends

Make authentic friends in a genuinely caring environment

[Our daughter] has blossomed into a young lady who is proud to be able to take part in challenges with confidence. I remember her first assembly back in Kindy where she refused to speak. This slowly, over the years progressed to the point she is at now. She is a confident member of her school community and has grown so much within herself.

—Laura, Primary Campus Parent

‘PeaceWiseKids’ helps kids have better relationships and resolve conflict in a healthy way.

We teach PeaceWiseKids from Pre-Primary to Year 6.

PeaceWise really helped me to sort out conflicts and problems I have in class and on the playground. I learned about the Peacemaking Pizza, which I will forever remember when I am in a conflict and don’t know what to do.

—Zoe, Year 6 Student

PeaceWise has helped me to step in to be a peacemaker. It’s also taught me to confess to things instead of escaping the scenario… I love how Carmel helps me to grow with God and even if I’ve done something wrong they forgive me every single time.

—Taina, Year 6 Student

I like that it calmed me down because I used to be really angry when people disagreed with me, but now I don’t get that angry anymore. I’ve learned not to react and just to respond.

—Eden, Year 6 Student

CREATIVITY HONOURS OUR CREATOR

Exceptional Music

Music education is scientifically proven to improve brain development in young children

Music is one of the only stimuli that activates both hemispheres of the brain at the same time

We foster an environment where students experience the excitement and joy of music

At Carmel we have a strong focus on practical skills. Students are provided with a selection of quality instruments, and can learn Piano, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Drums and/or Voice. We also have private music teachers for Piano, Guitar, Drums, Strings and Flute.

We offer students participation in the AMEB Award program and Certificate II in Music Industry for Years 11 and 12 through the College of Sound and Music Production. This provides students with real world qualifications and valuable understanding of practical musicianship. Students have gone on to study music at Tertiary level, and have worked professionally in the music events industry in both lighting and sound. A former student recently wrote to us about how our Certificate in II Music Industry helped her:

Hey Mr Eaton,  I had a random moment remind me of the Music VET. We were doing dance practice at summer camp. They couldn’t get the sound to work and were like, ‘Who can operate a sound system?’ and I was like ‘I can take a look!’ and I was able to work it. It’s such a good skill!

—Ella, former Secondary Campus Student (Currently working at Canadian summer camps)

Our students enjoy playing and singing Contemporary Christian Music

We are focused on developing young Christian musicians passionate about worship music and sharing their music with others. We have developed a strong chapel band program beginning in Year 4 and continuing until Year 12. Students have the opportunity to participate in weekly rehearsals developing their skills and leading worship for their peers. One of our former students even successfully auditioned to play at Riverview Church, one of the largest Christian churches in Perth. The ‘One 4 Carmel’ concert was a fantastic collaboration between Carmel Adventist College (featuring our String Ensemble and Senior Band) and Perth Adventist Orchestra. It was the first time we had performed together and won’t be the last!

Band members learn timeless skills for future success

Patience

Good things take time. In a world where everything is instant and fast. Learning to play an instrument or voice takes time.

Teamwork

Every member of the band has a unique role to play and students learn to work together.

Creativity

Learning music is an opportunity for students to creatively express through creating and arranging sounds.

Friendship

Learning music develops lifelong friendships with fellow band members.

“I’ve taught in many schools here and abroad and this school is a very special one. It is a school of caring, committed teachers, led by a wonderful Principal. There is a genuine Christian community here—in word and in deed.

Private Music Teachers like myself often feel very separated and outside of the life of a school, but here we are treated with such respect and appreciation. This is nothing short of remarkable. We are welcomed and included in the life of the school in such considerate and thoughtful ways, from being well informed and considered in the weekly timetables, excursion and incursions—to being prayed for in staff meetings!

It is clear that Music itself is valued and welcomed here, and the important place it has in the lives, education, and faith of the students is understood. Carmel Adventist College Primary is a very special school—my favourite school in all the world.”

—Bernard McDonagh, private music teacher

CAREER-READY GRADUATES

Flexible Pathways

Making dreams a reality

As students plan for life after school, we offer flexible pathways for them to achieve their study and career goals.

In Year 10, Careers classes and two week-long Workplace Learning placements give students the opportunity to explore and experience jobs they are considering.

In Year 11 and 12, we work with you and your child to develop a customised study plan based on your child’s goals, strengths and learning styles. In addition to achieving the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), we prepare students for a successful transition to University, TAFE, employment and/or further training with the options of the following:

  • TAFE Certificates (Year 11 & 12)

  • Workplace learning

  • School Traineeships

  • ATAR Subjects

  • Leadership

  • Literacy & Numeracy

  • Endorsed programs: Music, Drama, Art, Elite Sports

  • Spiritual Growth

  • Service Trips

We’re not ‘selective’ to make our ATAR scores look good in the newspaper

If your child wants to put in the effort, there is nothing standing in their way. Whether that’s acing the ATARs or graduating year 12 with TAFE certificates and immediately being offered a place at university. We’ve had a number of students with ATARs in the 90+ range. We’ve also had students graduate with TAFE certificates and immediate acceptance into university. What the ATAR rankings don’t show you is the graduates who go on to do traineeships in highly profitable blue collar jobs—earning a lot more than their university-graduate peers.

Boarding Life

“A home away from home.”

Year 8 to 12 Students

The Carmel Boarding House is not just a place to stay. It’s a home away from home, where students can form many lasting and valuable friendships with other students and a caring boarding house team. Positive relationships help students to feel part of the boarding house ‘family’, and to develop a sense of belonging.

We believe our connection with God enables us to value others above self. The Boarding House is a place where students are supported and encouraged in their faith journey, and where Christian values are promoted and upheld. Students can feel safe sharing their faith with others, and participating in worship activities.

We recognise that all students have holistic needs, and that these needs vary from student to student. We endeavour to understand and know each student as individuals, and are committed to ensuring that each student’s physical and mental health and well-being are nurtured.

The Boarding House is an extension of home and school, and assistance is provided to support students with their academic study and opportunities to engage in work placements. The values of self-discipline and perseverance are actively promoted, and students are encouraged to achieve to the best of their ability.

But most importantly

We Love Jesus

We love that worship is done every morning. The chapel is a highlight for both our girls each week.

—Emily M, Primary Campus Parent

We really appreciate the dedication and creativity of the teachers and the effort that the school puts into creating a positive and spiritual environment.

—Wendy, Primary Campus Parent

Carmel helps me grow my friendship with Jesus by daily Encounter lessons about people in the Bible and awesome other things. The Chaplain also has great messages about God.

—Jacob, Year 6 Student

I am a child of God

Every student and young child is created in God’s image. Every single one is unique and of immeasurable worth with the right to develop their God-given potential regardless of race, gender, ability, and religion.

This drives us to recognise the diversity and needs of all learners and provide an inclusive, quality education to all. We seek to create effective learning environments that enable students and young children to flourish holistically, committed to their individual differences and needs.

We count it a privilege to nurture, guide, teach, and inspire all those in our care, and to reflect Christ’s love to all.

Our family isn’t a part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but we have felt included and valued. When our son got cancer we realised why God wanted us at Carmel. Out of all the communities we are part of, no other group supported us more then all the staff, parents and kids at Carmel during that time.  Carmel is a real community that loves and accepts everyone.

—Emily, Primary Campus Parent

You don’t need to be Adventist or Christian to attend Carmel Adventist College. We just ask that you respect our beliefs and values, as we respect yours.

We’d love to meet you!
